About the Role Are you passionate about waste management and working in teams to deliver high-quality, community-focused services? The City of Port Phillip is seeking a motivated and experienced Team Leader to oversee daily operations at our South Melbourne Resource Recovery Centre. Duties: Supervise and support Resource Recovery Centre Officers and Driver Operators Manage daily site operations, including waste stream handling and contract compliance Conduct site inspections and ensure OH&S, EPA, and environmental compliance Coordinate rosters, timesheets, and labour hire staff Respond to customer requests and escalate complex issues Maintain accurate records and support service improvement initiatives Skills and Experience Demonstrated experience supervising operational staff, with a focus on fostering a respectful, safety-conscious, and collaborative team culture. Operational knowledge of transfer station functions, including safe handling of waste streams, EPA compliance, OH&S requirements, and operation of mechanical plant such as forklifts and front-end loaders. Proficiency in coordinating daily site operations, including rostering, task allocation, performance monitoring, and supporting staff administration (e.g. timesheets, leave requests, labour hire coordination). Ability to maintain accurate operational records, including use of in-cabin technology and enterprise systems (e.g. OneCouncil), and ensure compliance with cash handling procedures and audit requirements. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage professionally with staff, contractors, emergency services, and members of the public in a customer-facing environment. Experience working in customer-facing roles and ability to communicate professionally with members of the public. Mandatory Requirements Current Victorian Medium Rigid (MR) Driver’s Licence (mandatory). Ability to successfully complete VicRoads Driver Licence Verification prior to employment and as required during employment. Able to successfully complete pre-employment physical, Working With Children Check and police check screening. Ability to successfully complete a Medical Check (at the cost of council) through City of Port Phillip Medical Provider. Current Victorian Driver Licence (mandatory) and a good driving record.
