Impact of the organisation Foodbank provides essential food and groceries to more than 1 million vulnerable Australians every year. To do this, we work with the entire Australian food and grocery sector including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers who donate and redirect surplus product to us so we can make it available to charities providing emergency food relief. Foodbank NSW & ACT is a not-for-profit, federated organisation who support over 1,100 schools and place-based organisations right across NSW and ACT. Each month we provide 337,000 households with food and grocery assistance. Despite Foodbank’s scale and capacity, we are currently only meeting half the need. Foodbank is looking for likeminded people to join the team and support our mission to ensure everyone has access quality food and essentials when they need it. Impact of this opportunity Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Coordinator will provide vital support in delivering Foodbank NSW & ACT’s internal and external communications strategy. This newly created role is a fantastic step-up opportunity for an emerging communications professional to gain hands-on experience across content creation, media coordination, and storytelling. This role will manage internal staff newsletters, and will be key in sourcing, interviewing and capturing case study stories. You’ll play a key role in ensuring consistent, engaging messaging across all channels while working with a passionate team and representing one of Australia’s most trusted and impactful brands. Responsibilities: Support the delivery of Foodbank’s communications strategy through content creation, storytelling, and media coordination. Draft and edit engaging content for internal and external channels, including newsletters, blogs, and social media. Develop a suite of communication resources and templates to streamline internal processes. Build and manage relationships with Lived Experience Advocates to share authentic stories across campaigns and events. Provided support for annual report content production. Assist with media outreach, including drafting releases, managing contact lists, and tracking coverage. Coordinate internal communications and contribute to staff engagement initiatives. Support marketing and fundraising campaigns by managing timelines, assets, and approvals. Liaise with external suppliers, partners, and media to ensure smooth project delivery and brand consistency. Skills and Experience: Tertiary qualification or demonstrated experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and an eye for accuracy. Experience supporting media relations, including drafting releases and coordinating opportunities. Strong storytelling and content creation skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences and platforms. Strong attention to detail. Basic understanding of design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, and confidence working within brand guidelines. Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Collaborative and proactive approach, with the confidence to work across teams and build positive relationships. A curious mindset and eagerness to learn, develop new skills, and contribute ideas.
