Communications Manager An opportunity to lead and elevate Foodbank NSW & ACT’s voice, driving powerful storytelling, media engagement and communications that inspire action and make a real impact across the community. Impact of the organisation Foodbank provides essential food and groceries to more than 1 million vulnerable Australians every year. To do this, we work with the entire Australian food and grocery sector including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers who donate and redirect surplus product to us so we can make it available to charities providing emergency food relief. Foodbank NSW & ACT is a not-for-profit, federated organisation who support over 1,100 schools and place-based organisations right across NSW and ACT. Each month we provide 337,000 households with food and grocery assistance. Despite Foodbank’s scale and capacity, we are currently only meeting half the need. Foodbank is looking for likeminded people to join the team and support our mission to ensure everyone has access quality food and essentials when they need it. Impact of this opportunity The Communications Manager is a newly created role that will lead the development and delivery of a proactive communications strategy to strengthen Foodbank’s profile and impact. You’ll play a central role in amplifying the organisation’s voice, deepening stakeholder engagement, and building brand visibility across diverse channels. This role is responsible for shaping and executing strategic internal and external communications that connect with audiences, elevate brand awareness, and support Foodbank’s mission and fundraising goals. You’ll bring strong public relations experience, with demonstrated expertise in media relations, issues management, and reputational communications. A confident and creative storyteller, you’ll have a knack for translating complex ideas into engaging narratives that resonate across digital, media, and stakeholder platforms. You’ll lead and mentor a junior team member while being supported and guided by a highly experienced communications and PR professional, offering an excellent opportunity for growth, learning, and impact in a collaborative, values-driven environment. Responsibilities: Develop and deliver a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with organisational goals and brand direction. Lead the creation of key publications, campaigns and content that enhance Foodbank’s visibility and impact. Lead the annual report, including the strategy and delivery. Manage media relations, including proactive pitching, reactive responses and spokesperson training. Craft and share compelling stories that highlight Foodbank’s programs, people and partnerships. Lead executive briefings for key campaigns and events (manager) Drive internal communications initiatives to strengthen engagement, culture and alignment. Provide strategic advice and manage communications during issues or crises Lead and mentor the Communications Coordinator, fostering a collaborative, high-performing team. Skills and Experience: Demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, or a related field. Proven ability to develop and implement strategic communication plans. Strong media management experience, including pitching, liaison and training. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a flair for storytelling. Strong attention to detail. Experience creating multi-channel content that engages diverse audiences. Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work cross-functionally. Collaborative leadership style with a willingness to mentor and manage staff. Confidence to work with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.
