Permanent Opportunity Hybrid Work Environment Play an important part shaping the future of our iconic Australian institution About the Role As a Principal Integration Engineer within the Integration Services team at the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), you will operate as a trusted advisor and technical authority to drive innovation, integration standards, and lead complex initiatives that enable seamless systems integration, operational efficiency, and business agility. You will have deep technical expertise in the design, delivery, operations, and governance of integration solutions ensuring secure, scalable, and resilient interoperability across the Bank’s ecosystem. Key Responsibilities Define and drive the strategic direction of integration solutions and roadmaps to ensure alignment with the Bank’s priorities, architectural principles, processes, policies, and controls Provide technical leadership across complex integration solutions, enabling secure, scalable, and resilient interoperability across systems Evaluate emerging technologies, establish and govern integration standards, patterns, and best practice Drive continuous improvement and innovation, identifying opportunities to optimise integration performance, reduce complexity, and enhance operational resilience Lead the resolution of high-impact integration issues, risks and opportunities, acting as a senior escalation point and applying advanced diagnostic and problem-solving techniques Mentor and uplift engineering capability, providing guidance, coaching, and technical oversight to integration specialists/engineers and cross-functional delivery teams Represent integration engineering in strategic forums and technical working groups, contributing to enterprise architecture governance, technology planning and decision making Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including enterprise architects, cybersecurity teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure integration designs meet requirements and service levels About You Expert-level knowledge of enterprise integration platforms such as IBM Sterling B2B Integrator, Integration Bus, Message Queue, and cloud-native services (e.g. Azure Integration Services), with a proven ability to solution, govern, and optimise complex integration ecosystems across hybrid environments Comprehensive understanding of integration protocols (e.g. Connect:Direct, FTP/SFTP, HTTP/HTTPS, SOAP, REST, SWIFTNet), programming and scripting languages (e.g. Java, Python), and experience designing secure, scalable APIs and microservices architectures that support real-time and batch data exchange Strong understanding and technical expertise across diverse operating systems (Windows, Linux) and enterprise databases (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle), with knowledge of data modelling, transformation, and secure data exchange Proven experience in integration platform lifecycle management supporting critical 24x7 systems, roadmap planning, and defining, uplifting, and governing integration standards, processes and controls You are enthusiastic about your subject matter and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability Strong understanding and experience of portfolio and project delivery disciplines spanning waterfall and agile techniques, and related methodologies and tools Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and acting as a trusted advisor to architects, engineers, and business stakeholders, facilitating cross-functional alignment, mentoring engineering teams, and influencing enterprise-wide integration strategy Be More Working for an organisation that truly makes a difference to the people of Australia, we can offer development and career opportunities in a collaborative environment that supports your growth, wellbeing and promotes flexibility.
