Your key accountabilities The core capability requirements for this role are: Provide proactive and strategic advice on media communication and public affairs strategies, responses, and issues to the Commissioner, members of the QPS executive and senior officers, and the government. Proactively identify potential issues of concern to the QPS and develop and implement strategic media and communication plans to achieve organisational and government objectives and enhance reputation. Ensure there are sound issues management and crisis management systems and skilled and experienced people to maintain the QPS's capability and capacity to respond to emerging issues and promote the positive work of the QPS, including in crime prevention, frontline operations, and internal cultural reform. Lead the operations of the growing Media and Public Affairs Group, overseeing financial and human resources, ensuring effective governance practices underpin the team's activities, and acting as the on-call escalation point for urgent matters. Lead the development and implementation of effective strategic communication and public affairs strategies and projects, including innovative initiatives to reduce and prevent crime, and support successful recruitment and retention of police personnel. Manage the development and delivery of media-related training covering media and public affairs, social media and specialist campaigns as required. Represent the Commissioner and the Executive Director, Communications, Culture and Engagement Division on state, national and other forums. Oversee and provide direction to frontline media operations and provide leadership to the teams responsible for publishing, graphic design, regional disaster management, social media and community engagement, marketing and digital communications.
