Job Description Reporting to the Head of Tax and Payroll, the Senior Payroll Specialist ensures that this process runs smoothly and is completed with a high level of accuracy, while ensuring compliance with the relevant tax and employment laws and regulations. The Payroll function is critical to the organisation and this role requires someone with an accountable, innovative and solution led mindset. Key Responsibilities: Payroll Processing: Ensure the accurate and timely processing and reconciliation of employee timesheets and salaries. Ensure all payroll adjustments and changes are processed on time and accurately, minimising backpay and corrections. Ensure all employee changes, including new hires, compensation and time changes, and terminations, are processed accurately. Ensure payslips are compliant and shared in a timely manner. Maintain and update employee payroll data in the payroll system. Ensure accurate balances for leave balances, superannuation and other employee benefits. Work closely with the People and Finance Team to ensure alignment between payroll and HR records. Ensure managers and employees are educated and compliant with payroll needs for the prompt and effective processing of pay. Ensure relevant audits, checks and balances are conducted on an appropriate schedule to ensure that employees are set up appropriately with respect to awards, contracts, accruals, deductions etc. Minimise employee overpayments and manage repayment schedules where required. Compliance and Reporting: Assist in the preparation of State and Federal tax obligations including, PAYG Withholding, Payroll tax, Workcover and Superannuation Guarantee contributions. Ensure timely and accurate submission of tax reporting to the ATO. Stay updated on relevant awards, legislation, and regulations pertaining to payroll to ensure compliance. Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the payroll system. Regularly file and archive payroll information, ensuring data security and accessibility. Payroll Enquiries: Address general payroll inquiries, providing guidance on pay interpretation and procedures, proactively improving existing processes where necessary. Work collaboratively across the organisation to resolve payroll-related issues promptly, with a positive and service oriented approach.
