About the Role As a senior executive leader, the Executive Director is responsible for establishing and driving an integrated communication strategy that supports the department’s vision and objectives. The Executive Director, Strategic Communication and Engagement provides high-level leadership in shaping and delivering the department’s communication, media and engagement strategies. The role oversees media relations, brand management, digital channels, internal communications and marketing campaigns, while ensuring effective crisis response and stakeholder engagement. It provides authoritative advice to senior leaders and government, manages resources and governance frameworks and leads a multidisciplinary team to drive innovation, performance and alignment with organisational priorities. About You You will be a highly skilled, dynamic and strategic leader with proven experience in leading communication strategies that align with government priorities. Your ability to thrive in fast-paced, reactive environments is complemented by your experience in successfully leading multidisciplinary teams and navigating complex communication issues during significant events, such as natural disasters. With a focus on fostering collaboration with high level stakeholders, you bring exceptional engagement skills and a commitment to building organisational capability in communication and engagement. To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following: Proven ability to lead and deliver communication strategies that align with organisational priorities, while working collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve shared goals; Exceptional skills in advising senior leaders, managing complex communication issues and building networks to enhance the organisation’s reputation and engagement; Demonstrated expertise in analysing sensitive information, managing risks and finding innovative solutions to communication challenges; Proven ability to manage budgets, resources and campaigns, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and with measurable results; Proven skills in leading teams, fostering a culture of improvement and excellence and building organisational capability in communication and engagement; and Exceptional writing skills with expertise in tailoring messaging for diverse audiences and coaching others to adapt voice and narrative effectively.
