The Role: ALS Water in Canberra is seeking a Sample Receipt Officer who is committed to delivering excellent client service. This role is ideal for someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to a high-performing team while building practical skills in a laboratory environment. This is a full-time position with a Monday to Friday , 8:30AM to 4:36PM. Your day will be divided between physically collecting, signing in, and safely carrying sample eskies, and desk-based tasks such as reviewing client chain of custody documentation. You will be responsible for lodging samples, sorting them into the appropriate testing sections, and barcoding them for distribution to our laboratory teams. While this role may sound straightforward, it offers valuable experience in problem-solving, attention to detail, and task prioritization , along with exposure to a wide range of water testing samples and methods. The Day to Day: The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Greet and assist clients by phone and in person Process incoming sample deliveries into the laboratory, including the sorting and labelling of samples Read and understand client Chain of Custody (CoC) documentation, including analytical testing requirements Accurately enter information from the clients CoC documentation into the ALS LIMS system Liaising with clients (internal and external) regarding sample submissions and related queries Manually move samples and eskies around the laboratory utilising provided equipment (typically around 15kg) Maintaining an excellent standard of occupational health and safety The Essentials: Laboratory or Chemistry experience or qualifications preferred but not essential Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills Good presentation, professional attitude and attention to detail Demonstrated reliability and efficiency A good level of computer literacy (training is provided for internal recording systems) Ability to absorb and retain high levels of information Ability to process large volumes of samples and records efficiently and within strict timeframes Working at ALS The ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.
