We have a vacancy for a Energy Spot Trader to join our Trading team based in Melbourne. This role will As an integral member of our commercial team, you will shape our asset optimisation and trading efforts. The role will focus on the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) and will be based in our office in Melbourne. You will be responsible for: Asset & Client Onboarding Assess risks and opportunities of asset operations by coordinating with the client team. Support relationships with key clients, market operators, and other key stakeholders. Asset Planning & Reporting Develop and refine Habtitat trading protocols and operational workflows. Provide input into the product development roadmap and service offerings, identifying new market opportunities, and work internally to establish requirements and execute on service development. Trading, Optimisation, and Dispatch Optimization of physical and financial trading positions within real-time electricity markets with a key focus on maximizing value capture for our clients. Collaboration within Habitat teams to develop and implement trading strategies to achieve targets whilst complying with risk limits and trading control procedures. Support analysis and platform improvement to aid in achieving profit targets and the optimal dispatch of client portfolios. 24/7 shift roster to manage operational Facilities. Performance Monitoring, Reporting & Analysis Comparison of Habitat’s results with similar assets in the market. Performance monitoring of trading outcomes and client portfolios. Analysis of the NEM to understand fundamental drivers of market characteristics. Additional Responsibilities Algorithm improvement and analysis of trading strategies. Market analysis, including Habitat's view of price forecasts and other inputs to the forecasting models. Required skills and experience: A degree in business, economics, finance, computer science, engineering or related field 2 years of physical or financial trading experience in Australian electricity markets trading. Experience in providing outstanding customer service; Intuition, can-do attitude and adaptability to embrace new ways of thinking Strong judgement in high pressure, high value situations; Ability to prioritise workload in time pressured environment; Passion for delivering complex problems to a range of audiences; Strong understanding of the operations, rules, infrastructure and organisations in the NEM; Knowledge of real-time energy and ancillary service wholesale market fundamentals; ‘Nice to have’ skills and experience: Experience with operations or asset management for renewables, battery storage and hybrid assets. Comfortable working with analysis packages that are python based. Ability to query relational databases and visualise results in business intelligence tools. Experience with linear optimisation programming.
