Job Title: APS 4–APS 6 Security Technician Location: Woden, ACT Employment Type: Full time, Non-ongoing Workplace Flexibility: Office-based preference, with flexibility for WFH Duration: 6 – 12 months Eligibility: Australian Citizenship Clearance: Minimum NV1 security clearance (Baseline may be considered) Salary: APS 4: $81,954 – $86,594 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation APS 5: $87,843 – $94,998 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation APS 6: $98,336 – $110,937 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation About the Organisation We are a Commonwealth Government agency responsible for safeguarding people, information, and assets through the delivery of strong and effective protective security operations. Our Security Branch plays a critical role in supporting national priorities, implementing the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), managing security systems, and ensuring the safe operation of government infrastructure. About the Role We are seeking motivated and dependable APS 4–6 Security Technicians to support day-to-day physical security operations. The successful candidates will play a key role in operating security systems, providing accurate customer service, and contributing to the delivery of protective security functions. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with a background in security technology rather than guarding, and those with COMSO training at APS4–6 level will be highly regarded. You will need to be adaptable, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. This role provides an excellent opportunity to grow your career in protective security within the Australian Public Service. Key Responsibilities Operate and maintain physical security systems, including the Gallagher access control and CCTV system. Coordinate security services, including contracted guarding providers. Oversee maintenance and servicing of secure containers, safes, and other security infrastructure. Manage the Security inbox, triaging and responding to enquiries in a timely manner. Liaise with stakeholders and contractors to ensure compliance with security protocols. Support general security operations, including reporting and compliance tasks. Assist with administration of protective security policies, procedures, and records. Promote a strong and positive security culture across the organisation. Collaborate with business areas to implement security policies effectively. Participate in the 24/7 on-call roster, as required. Key Capabilities and Experience Knowledge of physical security principles, including access control and protective measures. Experience with electronic security systems such as Gallagher and CCTV. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to deliver professional, customer-focused service. Experience coordinating servicing, contractor attendance, or compliance tasks. Ability to interpret and apply protective security policies and procedures. Familiarity with the PSPF and security governance principles (desirable but not essential). Proactive and collaborative team player, with a willingness to contribute to a positive security culture. Willingness and availability to participate in an on-call roster. Desirable Qualifications Diploma in Government Security or equivalent work experience. Certificate IV in Security Risk Management or Government Investigations, or equivalent work experience. COMSO training (highly desirable).
