About the opportunity Due to growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. This role is primarily responsible for assisting Corporate Counsel in the delivery of the Council’s legal needs and provide paralegal support to the Lawyers. The preferred candidate will also be responsible for: Providing administrative services to the legal team Dealing with urgent matters in the absence of Lawyer and Corporate Counsel Preparing reports, correspondence, memorandums to Corporate Counsel and senior staff Researching, complying and keeping up to date with relevant legislation applicable to the performance of the duties of this position Assisting in the provision of legal services including legal research, drafting and related activities. Qualifications and experience Essential: Diploma in Business Administration, Legal Services or a related field Solid experience in the use of various computer applications MS Word, Excel and Power Point Strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability and commitment to providing excellent customer service internal and external Excellent communication, interpersonal and written communication skills Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, sound judgement, discretion and confidentiality whilst meeting strict deadlines Understanding and commitment to ethical practice and acting with probity at all times Significant professional administrative experience (minimum 8 years) Experience using PEXA’s online electronic lodgement network. Desirable: Experience in Local Government Availability to work flexible working hours High level competency in Technology One Knowledge of Court procedures and document presentation Knowledge of Courts, especially Land and Environment Current class C driver's licence Qualified as a Native Title Manager Justice of the Peace. Remuneration and benefits The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
