By strengthening the systems that train, certify, and transition skilled workers into the sector, you’ll be helping to secure sustainable workforce growth, safer operations, and a more agile training system that can adapt to changing needs. The Roles: We’re seeking 2 systems-thinking Project Specialists to drive initiatives that strengthen the maritime skills pipeline, improve training pathways, and support a skilled, future-ready workforce. You’ll work closely with registered training organisations (RTOs), the maritime industry, unions, and government stakeholders to deliver projects. One role is a headline reform role (18-month fixed-term contract) which will review their entire skillset training system as it applies to the maritime sector. You’ll address what’s holding back industry growth - from modernising skills recognition to creating more responsive training solutions, by: Addressing skills shortages in the maritime sector Improving training pathways Promote collaborative solutions that balance workforce growth with industry needs and quality standards. The second role (2-year fixed-term contract) will focus on the revalidation of current competencies that work, practically applying regulations, supporting the performance of RTOs, thereby ensuring contemporary practice. You will work to improve current practice by reviewing how to: Revalidate and recognise existing competencies - including skills gained in other industries - to fast-track skilled workers into maritime roles. Strengthen engagement across the Vocational Education and Training (VET) and tertiary education sectors. Ensure qualifications reflect real-world industry needs. The Candidates: Experience working within the VET or tertiary education sector, preferably with exposure to the maritime or Aviation/transport/logistics industries. Strong project management skills - able to deliver outcomes within scope, budget, and timelines. High-level communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building skills. Ability to work across complex stakeholder groups - including RTOs, the maritime industry, unions, peak bodies and governments. A collaborative, strategic thinker who can see the “big picture” and translate it into practical actions. The Offer: The Project Specialist positions are offered on a full-time, fixed-term contract basis at a salary of up to $135K plus superannuation. Located in the CBD with hybrid working available.
