Job description Who we are The Construction & General Division of the CFMEU (the Union ) is Australia’s main trade union in the building and construction industries. The Union has offices in all capital cities and has over 80,000 members across Australia. The Union is dedicated to protecting the lives and improving the conditions and wages of construction workers. About the role An opportunity has arisen for a proactive and dynamic Media and Communications Officer to join the CFMEU’s NSW Branch in its Sydney office. You will have the opportunity to create powerful content with impact and reach. The successful candidate will need to be hands-on and have the ability to work well in a re-active environment. Reporting to the Branch Executive, the responsibilities of this exciting role include: Ensuring the union’s content platforms deliver high quality communications to members Ensuring the timely delivery of key journals and printed material for your branch Create striking videos and digital content for events, conferences and campaign work Being the media contact for the union Ensuring high quality designs across the Branch platforms Managing the use of external providers to deliver on the union’s printed communications needs Being part of the development of the weekly and yearly planner for delivery of communications to the membership Assisting in the delivery of state and national campaign materials What the right candidate will bring The ideal candidate will need to have a go-getter attitude with exceptional communication skills and the ability to understand the audience. The desired skills and attributes will include: Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in either journalism, communications or digital content Experience of working in a union, advocacy organisation or similar Passion and commitment to the values of the union movement Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with stakeholders Good judgement, a willingness to learn, proactive and a good sense of humour Ability to work as part of a team and independently Excellent time management skills Attention to detail The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license.
