Senior AWS Cloud Engineer – Federal Government | Canberra A leading Federal Government program is seeking a skilled Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to help deliver a major uplift in secure cloud services. This role supports the expansion of Whole-of-Government AI capability by establishing AWS as a core platform offering within a secure, government-grade hosting environment. As a senior member of the technical team, you’ll lead the design, implementation, and security of scalable AWS infrastructure, supporting AI application development across multiple agencies. This is a hands-on engineering role with strong emphasis on infrastructure-as-code, DevSecOps practices, and alignment to ISM controls. Key responsibilities include: Designing and managing AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and VPCs Implementing ISM-compliant security protocols and conducting regular assessments Supporting APS teams adopting AWS within the platform environment Automating deployments using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible Providing SME-level input and mentoring internal teams Ideal background: You’ll bring proven experience across AWS cloud environments in secure, complex settings, preferably government or regulated industries. Strong knowledge of IAC, containerisation (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and IAM frameworks. Familiarity with AWS AI services, Azure, and scripting languages (Python, Shell, PowerShell).
