About the Role The CSSD Sterilizing Technician ensures sterile supplies are provided to the operating room in line with standards. Key duties include cleaning, documenting, preparing, checking, and packaging reusable medical equipment, under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager or CSSD Coordinator. Position Objectives: The CSSD Sterilizing Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient reprocessing of reusable medical instruments in line with AS/NZS 5369 standards. Core tasks include: Receiving, inspecting, cleaning (manual and mechanical), assembling, packaging, and labeling instruments for sterilization. Operating and monitoring sterilization equipment (e.g. steam, ETO, plasma) and conducting performance tests. Maintaining detailed records for traceability and ensuring correct storage and stock rotation. Reporting faulty instruments, adhering to infection control and WHS protocols. Supporting equipment maintenance, ordering of supplies, and participating in audits, quality improvement, and staff training. Collaborating with theatre and hospital departments to ensure timely delivery of sterile items. About You You will need to hold the following accreditation, skills and working rights: · Completion of an accredited Cert III or higher sterilising technician course or equivalent training · Knowledge and skills in sterilisation technology and instrument processing. · Able to perform physically demanding tasks · Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills. · Demonstrate ability to work independently and with supervision as required. Desirable · Knowledge of current legislation and best practices regarding patient safety and surgical protocols. · Minimum 12 months previous experience as a theatre technician in relevant specialities.
