About the Role Join the Parliamentary Security Service as a Senior Parliamentary Security Officer and play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of Queensland's Parliament. Our mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for Members of Parliament, staff and visitors within the Parliamentary Precinct. Your duties and responsibilities as a Senior Parliamentary Security Officer will see you: Perform and supervise security duties within all areas of the Parliamentary Precinct, including regular patrols. Operate surveillance and monitoring systems, ensuring procedures are followed and incidents documented. Act as a First Responder during major security incidents when the Parliamentary Security Supervisor is absent. Assist parliamentary staff, visitors, and dignitaries while maintaining secure access points. Coordinate car park allocations and issue security access cards, maintaining relevant databases. Lead emergency evacuations and liaise with authorities such as Queensland Police and Queensland Fire and Rescue. Conduct inspections of security equipment and oversee fire panel isolations as needed. Provide on-the-job training to security personnel and assist in shift coordination, including rostering and leave planning. Key Strengths for Success To excel in this role, you should demonstrate: Ability to manage a small team during shifts and mentor junior security officers. Ability to stay calm under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies. Strong customer service skills to communicate professionally with staff, visitors, and officials. Competence in the Microsoft Office suite and rapid adaptability to new security technologies. Ability to understand the operational environment of the Queensland Parliament and relevant laws and workplace policies. Qualifications & Experience Security qualifications are desirable but not mandatory. 3-5 years' experience in a security environment, ideally in control room operations, baggage screening, and metal detection. Possess Advanced First Aid Certification or have the ability to obtain within one month from appointment. This position requires you to undertake: * Shift work in accordance with a 12 hour shift roster that operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and the requirement to work overtime particularly during parliamentary sitting weeks.
