The Opportunity As the Claims Risk Manager, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the integrity of life insurance claims by leading the development and execution of robust risk management strategies. This hands-on leadership position requires a strategic thinker with deep expertise in the Australian Life Insurance landscape, particularly in claims handling and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for identifying emerging risks, conducting comprehensive risk assessments, and ensuring alignment with legislative and industry standards, including the Life Insurance Code of Practice. Working closely with cross-functional teams and the Enterprise Risk function, you will embed a strong risk culture across the claims environment. Your responsibilities will include maintaining and enhancing the Claims Risk Playbook, evaluating the risk and controls ecosystem, and delivering targeted risk education to uplift risk literacy across the business. Your ability to interpret complex regulatory changes and translate them into actionable frameworks will be key to driving continuous improvement and operational resilience. This role demands a resilient and adaptable professional with a proven track record in financial services risk management—ideally within life insurance. You will bring strong analytical capabilities, a deep understanding of risk frameworks, and the ability to design and implement effective controls in a data-driven environment. As a trusted advisor, you will provide expert guidance to all levels of management, ensuring that risk is not only managed but strategically leveraged to support sustainable business outcomes. How will you make an impact? Develop and implement risk management strategies and policies in claims. Monitor and conduct thorough risk assessments to analyse trends and identify potential and emerging risk Interpret legislation and regulatory changes to develop robust risk management practices within claims. Collaborate with our Enterprise Risk management team and other cross-functional teams to ensure effective risk management practices. Provide expert advice and guidance on risk-related matters to all levels Contribute to manage and review the Claims Risk Playbook. Evaluate, review and support Claims risk and controls ecosystem. Conduct Claims Risk education sessions to enhance risk literacy About you To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following: 5-10 years Risk Management experience in Insurance/Financial Services (Life insurance/Life insurance Claims preferable) Understanding of the key elements of a risk management strategy and framework Strong working knowledge of industry, regulatory environment, including exposure to LCCC Experience in conducting risk assessments, control design and compliance obligation management along with root cause analysis of incidents. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines. Goal-oriented with a proven track record of producing outcomes within specified timeframes. Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable working in a dynamic and changing environment. Ability to prepare comprehensive reports for regulatory bodies.
