This position sits within a specialist team responsible for market forecasting and trading support. The team plays a critical role in shaping commercial outcomes through detailed modelling, data interpretation, and scenario planning across Australia’s wholesale energy landscape. About the Role As Energy Market Analyst, you will be responsible for delivering short, medium, and long-term price forecasts across the NEM to support market operations, trading strategy, and business planning. You will conduct market simulations, dispatch analysis, and constraint forecasting to inform generation planning and commercial decisions. You’ll work with data science teams, market operators, and traders to ensure forecasts are grounded in both analytical rigour and market insights. Your work will be central to supporting business strategy in an evolving market shaped by renewables, policy change, and decarbonisation. Key Responsibilities Develop and refine market models to generate price, dispatch, and constraint forecasts across time horizons. Analyse NEM dynamics, including interconnector flows, outages, and marginal loss factors. Provide actionable insights to trading teams and inform pre-dispatch strategies. Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to align modelling with operational and commercial priorities. Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and generator behaviours to improve forecast accuracy. Prepare reporting and visualisation outputs for executive and trading use. Support continuous improvement of modelling tools, data pipelines, and forecasting methodologies. This role supports commercial activity across: Renewable Generation – dispatch strategy, forecast accuracy, and market bidding insights. Market Trading & Operations – day-ahead planning, bidding strategies, and portfolio optimisation. Energy Storage Integration – value modelling, charging/discharging profiles, and FCAS markets. Corporate Strategy – market outlook, investment analysis, and regulatory scenario modelling. Candidate Profile 3–5 years of experience in energy market analysis, forecasting, or quantitative modelling. Strong understanding of NEM operations, dispatch engine behaviour, and price formation mechanisms. Demonstrated proficiency with market modelling tools and programming languages (e.g. Python, R, or MATLAB). Experience with forecasting systems or simulation software used in energy markets. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret large datasets and draw commercial conclusions. Effective communication skills, able to translate technical work into business insight. Tertiary qualifications in engineering, mathematics, economics, or a related quantitative field.
