A Council in Southeastern suburbs of Melbourne is looking for an Environmental Health officer for a contract role. Band 5 - $41.65 p/h plus super Hybrid working 2nd June - 29th Aug 2025 Potential to extend Key Responsibilities Perform the duties of an authorized officer under the relevant provisions of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, Food Act 1984, Tobacco Act 1987, Local Government Act 2020 and Environment Protection Act 2017 in accordance with Council policy and delegated authority. Inspect allocated food premises and methods of operation within assigned officer section and give advice or direction as appropriate and in line with Health Team procedures and practices. Monitor food standards by inspection, assessment, and sampling. Investigate and action incidents and complaints of adulterated food and infectious diseases, resolve health nuisances and potential public health concerns. Participate in Council’s tobacco sales to minors program in accordance with the Tobacco Act 1987 and other service agreements. Inform, educate and take enforcement action in response to detected noncompliance and breaches of legislation by issuing notices, warnings, infringements and initiating prosecutions in court. Assess and approve applications for the installation of greywater septic tanks and undertake regular reviews to assess ongoing compliance, including greywater sampling. Review new food premises plans for approval and provide advice as appropriate.
