ABORIGINAL LEGAL SERVICE OF WA LIMITED Youth Worker Old Ways New Ways Full Time Fixed Term contract (until 22 May 2027 – Parental Leave cover) Salary commensurate with experience AD3-AD4 i.e. $83,136 to $101,849 plus superannuation Attractive employee benefits including salary packaging Generous leave provisions of 5 weeks annual leave plus leave loading 2 weeks additional paid leave for end of year closure Access to additional paid leave for health and well-being About the role The Aboriginal Legal Service of WA Limited (ALSWA) is funded by the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department to deliver Old Ways New Ways in conjunction with Wadjak Northside Aboriginal Corporation, Stephen Michael Foundation Ltd and Hope Community Services Ltd. Old Ways News Ways is a justice reinvestment initiative designed to break the cycle of youth offending in the Peth and southwestern regions of Western Australia and is funded under the National Justice Reinvestment Program until 30 June 2029. The Youth Worker for the OWNW Justice Reinvestment Program provides support for young people involved in or at risk of entering the justice system. The role focuses on supporting Aboriginal young people and their families through mentoring and practical supports to facilitate their participation in the OWNW educational activities and on-country cultural camps along with other individualised supports as needed. The Senior Youth Worker is required to contribute to OWNW Educational Activity Days and on-Country camps as needed and focus on allocated clients as directed. About you To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to meet the following criteria: Experience working with Aboriginal young people and families with an appropriate level of cultural understanding, empathy and sensitivity and trauma informed. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with young people, families, and stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to communicate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders at a high level. Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and external stakeholders to achieve program goals. Understanding of the unique challenges faced by Aboriginal youth in the justice system and a commitment to culturally responsive practices. Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of social justice and human rights. Ability to confidently use workplace technology. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. Attention to detail in maintaining accurate case records and preparing reports. Demonstrated commitment to child safety It is also desirable if you have: Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, youth work, or a related field. Demonstrated experience in youth work or case management, preferably with Aboriginal youth or in justice settings. Advocacy skills in supporting youth access services and navigating the justice system. Experience working in partnership with Aboriginal communities and Elders. Experience in building partnerships with community service providers, legal services, and government agencies. Knowledge of justice reinvestment principles and the OWNW program objectives. Experience in delivering programs that incorporate cultural healing and on-country activities.
