Safety Supervisor & Trainer About the role Glass Co Metro (GCM) is seeking an experienced and motivated Safety Supervisor & Trainer to join our Operations team. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for embedding safe systems of work and developing workforce capability within our manufacturing environment. A key focus of the position is leading, training and mentoring apprentices, ensuring they develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to become safe, productive and quality-focused tradespeople. Working closely with Production Supervisors, Leading Hands and the Quality & Safety Manager, you will champion workplace safety, deliver practical training, support continuous improvement initiatives and help build a strong safety culture across the factory. The role exists to ensure employees – particularly apprentices and new starters – are trained correctly, work safely and understand quality standards, enabling Production Supervisors to focus on production outcomes and customer delivery. As part of the team, you will assist GCM in achieving our DIFOT, Rework and Continuous Improvement targets while supporting our goal of delivering exceptional service to our builders and customers. Key responsibilities Lead and mentor apprentices through structured factory training, rotations and development pathways aligned with SOPs and GCM Academy standards Deliver on-the-job training for apprentices, new starters and operators, building capability, confidence and progression Monitor performance and provide regular feedback, including one-on-ones, reviews and development planning Provide frontline safety leadership, coaching safe behaviours and ensuring compliance with JSAs, SWMS and Safe Work Procedures Conduct safety audits, inspections and support incident and near-miss investigations and corrective actions Identify, escalate and help resolve safety risks, training gaps and process improvement opportunities Deliver practical training in SOPs, quality standards and Lean principles across the factory Support continuous improvement, problem-solving and ensure adherence to safety and quality requirements across operations Skills and experience Strong experience in a manufacturing, production or trade-based environment Trade qualification in Glazing, Glass Processing or related trade (highly desirable) Demonstrated experience in safety leadership and safe systems of work Experience developing, reviewing and implementing JSAs, SWMS and Safe Work Procedures Proven experience training, mentoring or supervising apprentices or team members Strong communication and coaching skills with ability to influence positive behaviours Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement (desirable) Formal safety, training or quality qualifications (advantageous) Strong computer literacy and administrative capability Why join Glass Co Metro?
