Smith & Co Recruitment is partnering with a well-established construction business looking for an experienced Accounts & Payroll Officer to become an integral part of their finance team. This isn't your typical transactional accounts role. You'll be involved across accounts payable, payroll, project billing, financial administration and process improvement while working alongside an experienced Group Accountant and leadership team. The Opportunity As the Accounts & Payroll Officer, you'll play a key role in keeping the finance function running smoothly. From ensuring suppliers are paid on time to processing payroll accurately and supporting project billing, you'll become an essential part of a high-performing finance team. Key Responsibilities: Accounts Payable Process supplier invoices, subcontractor claims and creditor payment runs. Reconcile supplier statements and maintain supplier and subcontractor records. Manage retention schedules and payment administration. Payroll Process weekly and fortnightly payroll accurately and on time. Maintain employee records, onboarding documentation, leave entitlements and statutory obligations. Support payroll compliance, including superannuation, payroll tax and multi-state requirements. Accounts Receivable & Finance Administration Raise debtor invoices, progress claims and support project billing. Perform bank reconciliations, monitor outstanding debtors and assist with month-end processing. Maintain accurate financial records and documentation across the business. Systems & Process Improvement Support the implementation and ongoing use of Sage ERP and Employment Hero. Document finance procedures while maintaining data integrity across systems. Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and efficiencies. About You You'll be someone who enjoys working behind the scenes to keep everything running like clockwork. You're organised, detail-focused and take pride in producing accurate work, even when juggling multiple priorities. You'll also bring: Minimum 3 years' experience in Accounts Payable and Payroll Experience processing end-to-end payroll Previous experience within construction, contracting or project-based industries (highly regarded) Experience using accounting software or ERP systems Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills Ability to prioritise competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach Experience with Sage ERP, Employment Hero or multi-entity businesses will be highly regarded Exposure to payroll tax, Modern Awards or subcontractor administration is advantageous Why Apply?
