Payroll Officer Fixed-Term Contract | ASAP Start Local Council | Eastern Suburbs Melbourne 38 hours per week | Hybrid $43.81 per hour leave benefits and super About the Role We are looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to join our client, a local government organisation in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. This is a fixed-term contract running through to November 2026, direct with Council, and comes with leave entitlements. You’ll be working within a supportive P&C environment, handling end-to-end payroll for a diverse workforce. If you’re someone who takes pride in accuracy, knows your way around payroll legislation, and can communicate confidently with employees and people managers alike - this is a strong opportunity to step into a stable, well-structured role. What You’ll Be Doing End-to-end payroll processing including data entry, production runs, entitlements, deductions, terminations, and salary packaging in line with relevant awards and enterprise agreements Interpreting and applying local government industrial instruments, tax, superannuation, and leave legislation to ensure accurate and compliant payroll outcomes Responding to payroll queries from people managers and employees, explaining concepts such as leave entitlements, pay composition, and tax with clarity and confidence Maintaining payroll records and producing periodic and exception reports for compliance and regulatory purposes Upholding strict confidentiality and data integrity standards while contributing to continuous improvement of payroll service delivery What We’re Looking For Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a payroll role, ideally within local government, public sector, healthcare, or education Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (finance, business, HR or similar) Sound working knowledge of payroll systems - PayGlobal experience highly regarded Strong understanding of awards, enterprise agreements, tax, super, and leave entitlements High attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to meet payroll deadlines without fail To apply or find out more, contact Amanda Li at Public Sector People: Email: amanda@publicsectorpeople.com.au Phone: 03 8535 3111 Please note: only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
