About the role As an IMS System Programmer, you will make an impact by ensuring the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of IMS v15 systems. You will be a valued member of the mainframe/infrastructure team and work collaboratively with senior management and technical stakeholders. In this role, you will: • Execute IMS v15 system programming, including software installation and applying fixes • Perform problem determination and resolution for IMS system software, related products, utilities, and tools • Administer and maintain IMS systems, including running backups and reviving corrupt data • Prepare and implement policies for disk storage setup, CPU resource limits, and backup strategy for IMS subsystem objects • Conduct R&D and proof-of-concept work for new IMS features, reporting long-term cost-benefit findings to senior management Work model At Cognizant, we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible, and we are here to support a healthy work-life balance through our various wellbeing programs. What you need to have to be considered • Strong knowledge of RDBMS concepts and IMS software upgrades • Experience with complete system-level backup and recovery, including IMSGEN and SYSGEN • Proficiency with IBM IMS utilities (Backup, Reorg, Recovery, Load, Unload, Pointer Checker, etc.) and creation of databases, tablespaces, tables, and indexes • Knowledge of basic IMS or DB2 commands, SQL performance tuning, and security and space management • Experience with Incident, Change, and Problem Management, including monitoring DBA housekeeping jobs and resolving deadlocks/timeouts These will help you stand out • Experience with Change and Configuration Management, including moving updates through various staging environments (ITIL Change and Configuration Mgmt.) • Proven ability in problem identification, determination, and resolution for products in conjunction with requestors (ITIL Incident/Problem Mgmt.)
