About Digital Services Digital Services sits within the Ngurra Transformation Group. Digital Services has three core teams (Development Services, ICT Operations, ICT Security & Infrastructure, and Information & Data Governance) that work together under the direction of the Chief Information Officer to provide a secure, flexible, and modern ICT capability allowing AIATSIS to take full advantage of digital capabilities whilst providing a stable and mature platform to deliver its day-to-day operations. The section also leads digital transformation initiatives from start to finish for AIATSIS ensuring that the agency excels in providing cutting-edge services to our customers, such as the modernising and transformation of our existing educational platform to constructing secure, transformative digital experiences and galleries. About the Role We are looking to expand our Infrastructure team and are seeking a Senior Infrastructure engineer, reporting directly to the Infrastructure Manager you will ensure reliable systems operation and critical support of a multi-site hybrid ICT architecture and environment enabling effective business operations. As a smaller ICT team, but with the same remit as many other government departments, the role of Senior Infrastructure Engineer, provides an exciting opportunity to any suitably experienced candidate wanting to gain greater breadth of knowledge, exposure to a wider range of functions in a solution focussed digital environment to build their own skills and capability. Our ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in all facets of Infrastructure as well as significant experience in managing and continually assisting in the evolution of a complex technical environment. You will be detail oriented and be committed to delivering high quality solutions for internal and external stakeholders whilst being a pivotal role model for your peers within the team and broader section. Key responsibilities of the role include: manage and configure Active Directory (AD) domains, DNS, ADFS, Azure Intra ID, and related identity services. maintain, configure, and patch the Microsoft Server environment and Standard Operating Environment (SOE), including MS Exchange, Office 365, VMware, and server management platforms. administer security and system updates across the organisation’s endpoints, including Windows updates, Microsoft patching, software upgrades, security patches, firewall policies, VMs, and firmware updates. manage and maintain enterprise firewalls, antivirus platforms, backup solutions (Commvault, Nutanix), and software deployment tools (Microsoft SCCM and Intune). oversee the administration of Nutanix infrastructure, physical and virtual servers, and the network environment, ensuring optimal performance and high availability. provide day-to-day monitoring and technical support of the entire ICT infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, and wireless networks, ensuring operational stability and security. administer and manage corporate data backup and recovery processes, ensuring compliance with data retention and recovery objectives. monitor for unauthorised access or compromise of ICT systems, conduct investigations, produce incident reports, and promote cybersecurity awareness throughout the organisation. provide expert advice on the acquisition, design, and implementation of infrastructure and technical solutions, contributing to improvements in ICT effectiveness and efficiency. conduct research into emerging technologies, technical standards, and best practices to support the organisation’s digital capability, particularly in areas such as storage, information management, and infrastructure modernisation. support and maintain the AIATSIS Standard Operating Environment (SOE), including hardware and software platforms based on Microsoft and Linux Operating systems. coach, mentor and develop junior staff perform additional duties as required, contributing to the broader goals of the ICT team. You will come with the following skills, experience and attributes: tertiary qualifications in ICT and / or significant > 3 years demonstrated practical experience in an ICT environment undertaking ICT Infrastruture responsibilities. experience managing, coaching and developing staff within small to medium sized ICT teams. model and display the behaviours and capabilities laid out in the APS Integrated Leadership System (ILS) at an EL1 level. comprehensive understanding of IT infrastructure components and their interrelations. virtualization knowledge of virtual machines and hypervisors (VMware, Nutanix). have significant knowledge and experience of Network Administration including understanding of network protocols, routing, wireless, switching, and firewall configurations. experience in managing relationships with hardware and software vendors. ability to work with autonomy and effectively manage a medium-sized and complex computer network / corporate and Collections ICT infrastructure extensive current version knowledge of systems including: Microsoft Windows Server. Linux servers Microsoft Azure and Entra ID Amazon AWS. Office 365 administration – Exchange Online and on-premises Exchange Microsoft Active Directory management, including security management using Group Policy Objects. Hyper-V.
