DAMsmart is Australia's leading audiovisual digitisation and digital preservation services provider. Headquartered in Canberra, with operations in Malaysia and New Zealand, we work with clients across Australia and the wider region. The role This is not a generic web application role. You will be working on an internal workflow orchestration platform that powers our operations, optimising efficiency, ensuring accuracy, and giving our clients confidence in everything we deliver. The platform supports digitisation, data migration, metadata capture, content processing, and digital preservation, and works with digital audio and video media at its core, including transcoding pipelines, media playback, and media metadata. The operational team using it every day are handling irreplaceable material, and the software has to reflect that reality accurately. You will also contribute to client-facing products where the quality of what you build is directly experienced by our clients. You will sit between our senior engineer and the junior members of the team, providing day-to-day direction to junior developers and contractors. You will be expected to balance quality and stability with the pace of feature delivery, communicate clearly when trade-offs need to be made, and bring genuine curiosity to the domain, because understanding the work is what makes the software better. What we need Essential: Python development. Strong candidates from systems or other mainline languages will be considered. Relational database experience. Candidates with deep database engineering or administration experience are particularly valued. Git and GitHub, including collaborative development workflows. Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and extend an existing codebase. Highly desirable: Full-stack web application development, including frontend UI. SQLAlchemy experience. IT project management experience within a development context. Advantageous: Experience with digital media workflows, transcoding pipelines, or media metadata standards. Understanding of digital preservation principles and long-term data management. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and Linux environments.
