The Position An opportunity has become available for an experienced and motivated Payroll Manager to join a purpose driven organisation based in Brisbane CBD. This role is central to ensuring the efficient, compliant and strategic management of payroll operations, employee services, and people‑related systems across a multi-state workforce. You will oversee the delivery of accurate payroll processes, champion continuous improvement, and provide governance and leadership across employee information, reporting and compliance. Key Responsibilities Reporting to the CFO, this critical position requires a highly organised, detail‑oriented and solutions‑focused professional. Your responsibilities will include: Lead and manage the end-to-end fortnightly payroll process for approximately 4,000 employees. Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in line with legislative requirements, internal policies and service level expectations. Oversee payroll preparation, processing, reconciliations, reporting and exception management for each pay cycle. Manage and mentor a high-performing payroll team of four, providing leadership, guidance and ongoing development support. Act as the key escalation point for complex payroll queries, discrepancies and compliance matters. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across payroll systems, processes and workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy. Support payroll-related projects, system upgrades and process transformation initiatives. Manage payroll audits, reporting requirements and audit schedules, proactively identifying and resolving risks and discrepancies. Monitor legislative updates and ensure compliant payroll practices are embedded across payroll operations. Maintain confidentiality, integrity and best-practice management across all payroll and employee information. You will also have: Strong attention to detail and the ability to operate effectively in a complex environment. Excellent organisational and time‑management capability. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels. A proactive, adaptable and solutions‑focused approach. High proficiency with payroll and HRIS systems and experience leading system upgrades or process improvements. Demonstrated experience managing multi‑state payroll operations.
