State Gov FOI Officer - SOR We are seeking an experienced Freedom of Information (FOI) Officer to join a busy Information Services function within a government environment. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 1992 (WA) and supporting transparent access to information for the public.Working within a collaborative team, you will manage FOI applications end-to-end, provide expert advice to stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement of policies and processes. Your new role Process and manage FOI applications, ensuring strict adherence to legislative timeframes Review, research and evaluate documents to determine suitability for release, including identifying exempt material Liaise with internal teams to locate and retrieve relevant records across systems Provide clear recommendations to decision-makers regarding document release Deliver advice and guidance to internal stakeholders and the public on FOI legislation, policies, and processes Assist applicants in refining requests to ensure efficient processing Maintain confidentiality and ensure secure handling of sensitive information Contribute to policy and procedural improvements to ensure compliance with relevant legislation Support reporting and maintain accurate statistics relating to FOI applications Assist with training and knowledge sharing across the organisation What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate: Strong knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 1992 (WA) and related legislation Proven experience assessing, analysing and redacting documents for release Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with complex, sensitive information Well-developed organisational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines Sound judgement, critical thinking, and problem-solving capability A strong customer service focus and ability to handle sensitive enquiries with discretion Desirable Experience Experience operating within a government or public sector environment Exposure to delivering training or awareness sessions related to FOI Familiarity with records management systems and information governance frameworks What you'll get in return Opportunity to contribute to transparency and public accountability Work within a supportive and collaborative government team Competitive 6-month temporary assignment with potential extension opportunities What you need to do now If you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.
