We are seeking an experienced and motivated Finance Professional to join us in a key leadership role of Team Leader that will help shape strong financial outcomes for both Council and the community. Working closely with the Manager Financial Services, the successful applicant will provide leadership to the Finance team while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and service excellence aligned with the aspirations outlined in the 2044 Community Plan. This role is responsible for leading Council’s finance function, including the coordination, monitoring, and administration of budget preparation and control, statutory financial requirements, payroll, treasury management, and financial reporting activities. The Team Leader Finance will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with legislative obligations and accounting standards while supporting strategic decision-making across the organisation. We are looking for a confident and capable leader who can inspire and empower others to achieve outcomes and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment. You will possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build productive relationships across all levels of the organisation, including senior management, employees, and external stakeholders. Your strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving abilities will enable you to effectively manage competing priorities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring expert knowledge of accounting principles and practices, together with a comprehensive understanding of Local Government financial management requirements, statutory obligations, and relevant legislation including Goods and Services Tax, Fringe Benefits Tax, and associated regulations. Experience in applying and interpreting Accounting Standards, managing financial compliance, and overseeing commercial contracts will be highly regarded. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and extensive experience with financial management systems and accounting software are essential. To be successful in this role, you will hold a Bachelor qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline recognised by CPA or CAANZ and be professionally qualified as a CPA or CAANZ member. You will also bring proven leadership experience and demonstrated success in a financial accounting or advisory role within a complex organisation, government department, or Council environment. Ongoing compliance with Continuing Professional Development requirements of CPA or CAANZ is a requirement of the position.
