Job description Job Summary The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, repair and servicing of the company’s diesel trucks, trailers and other heavy vehicle fleet assets to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations. The role requires strong heavy vehicle mechanical knowledge, fault-finding ability, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, compliance and preventative maintenance. Key Responsibilities Diagnose, service, repair and maintain diesel engines in trucks and other heavy vehicles. Perform routine servicing and scheduled maintenance, including oil changes, filters, belts, fluid checks and general inspections. Troubleshoot and rectify mechanical and electrical faults in diesel-powered vehicles and fleet equipment. Inspect, repair and replace heavy vehicle components including engines, gearboxes, transmissions, braking systems, suspensions, steering systems, axles and wheel bearings. Carry out preventative maintenance to minimize breakdowns, downtime and repair costs. Inspect, service and repair truck trailers and associated components, including braking systems, suspensions, axles, wheel bearings, lights and wiring. Inspect heavy vehicle tyres and wheels for wear, damage and safety issues, and assist with tyre and wheel replacement where required as part of mechanical servicing and repair work. Ensure all trucks, trailers and fleet assets are maintained to roadworthy, safety and compliance standards. Maintain accurate service records, repair notes and maintenance documentation. Work independently or with other staff to prioritise urgent repairs and scheduled maintenance. Annual salary fo $90k to $120k super Requirements Proven experience working on diesel trucks, trailers or heavy vehicles. Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy vehicle mechanical systems. Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs efficiently and to a high standard. Sound understanding of preventative maintenance and fleet servicing requirements. Strong attention to safety, compliance and workmanship. Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively. Relevant trade qualification preferred. Valid driver’s licence required; HR or HC licence preferred.
