Under the general guidance of the Departments Release Train Engineer and Product Managers, the Scrum Master will lead Departments Teams through Agile Scrum activities within a SAFe portfolio. The role focuses on enabling predictable delivery, maintaining delivery discipline, supporting ART level events, and continuously improving Agile ways of working while The Scrum Master will: Ensure the scrum framework is followed, and that each scrum has a clearly defined set of roles and rituals. Assist Product Manager at team level by removing impediments, fostering strong stakeholder collaboration, Maximise flow, predictability, and delivery of agreed outcomes. Foster a strong and effective working environment facilitated through effective communication and collaboration. Promote continuous improvement including maturing the Departments management of program and project activities using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology. Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications (e.g. Certified Scrum Master (CSM)) or a related discipline. Certified in Leading SAFe® Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience performing the same or similar role within Defence or a Defence Industry setting. Experience working as a SAFe scrum master / team coach. Previous experience working in agile delivery leadership or support roles. Familiarity with the Atlassian suite, predominantly in administering JIRA. Familiarity with software development life cycle. Strong organisation, communication and problem/solving skills. Responsibilities: Facilitating all Agile ceremonies and ensuring consistent application of Scrum and SAFe practices across teams. Maintain close, regular engagement with the Product Delivery Manager to ensure progress tracking, alignment, and early escalation of risks, issues, or blockers. Support delivery planning by helping product managers to break down EPICs into feature. Break down features into stories and tasks with team, enabling effective sprint planning and execution and foster and maintain a close relationship with daily and regular contact with the Product Delivery manager. Coaching teams in Agile principles, backlog refinement, and creation of high quality user stories and tasks that meet agreed Definitions of Ready and Done. Actively managing and analysing Agile delivery metrics (e.g. velocity, predictability, iteration burn down) to support transparency, forecasting, and continuous improvement. Supporting iteration and PI capacity planning by factoring in leave, constraints, dependencies, and non-delivery activities to enable sustainable delivery and flow. Proactively identifying, managing, and escalating team level and systemic impediments, risks, and delivery issues in collaboration with the RTE, PMO, and stakeholders. Supporting dependency identification, tracking, and resolution across teams and external parties throughout the PI. Supporting the RTE in the preparation, execution, and follow up of PI Planning and other ART level ceremonies (e.g. Scrum of Scrums / Scrum Master sync), including action and dependency tracking.
