Please read this listing in conjunction with the interactive listing located here: cbc-structural-engineer-052026 (dot) vercel.app Purpose of the Position The position of Structural Engineer is a core technical role within CBC’s structural engineering division, focused heavily on residential projects across Perth and WA. The role centres on the day-to-day delivery of structural design, analysis, documentation, and site inspections under the direction of senior engineers and the department director. This is a role for someone who enjoys the technical work, takes pride in producing accurate and well-documented designs, and is happy to learn and grow within a small team that specializes in more bespoke projects. The expectation is reliable, high-quality output, sound judgement on structural problems, and clean communication with clients and colleagues. The Opportunity CBC has built its reputation on quality residential structural work, and the project pipeline is steady and varied. This role offers an engineer the chance to settle into a strong technical environment, build depth across the residential project types CBC handles every day, and grow under the mentorship of senior staff. For the right engineer, this offers something practical in the Perth market: · A steady, varied residential workload — not a single product type repeated endlessly. · Direct access to senior engineers and the founding directors for technical support and mentoring. · Clear pathways for technical development as skills and experience grow. · Competitive remuneration exceeding industry standards. · A 24-person firm where contribution is visible and supported rather than lost in a corporate structure. Key Responsibilities Technical Delivery · Prepare structural designs, mark-ups, and preliminary layouts for residential projects to a high standard of accuracy. · Produce structural analysis, calculations, and engineering documentation suitable for senior review. · Conduct site visits, structural inspections, construction compliance inspections, reinforcement inspections, compaction testing, and dilapidation surveys, producing reports and certificates as required. · Assess and resolve day-to-day engineering issues on residential jobs, escalating appropriately when matters fall outside scope or experience. · Apply NCC, Australian Standards, and relevant WA legislation across all residential project work. · Maintain accurate project records and ensure all design, analysis, and correspondence is filed in the appropriate job folder per company procedures. Workflow and Project Coordination · Organise assigned workflow with self-initiative, working efficiently to meet project timeframes and client expectations. · Use proper chain-of-command communications when raising problems, flagging risks, or noting information that affects other team members. · Coordinate with drafters, builders, and other consultants on assigned projects to keep work moving. · Follow internal engineering strategies, policies, and procedures, and keep current with CBC’s design, analysis, and drawing systems. Client Communication · Maintain client relationships through effective and commercially aware communication on assigned jobs. · Respond to project-specific client requirements, update clients on progress, and handle queries within scope. · Escalate scope, fee, or relationship matters to senior engineers or directors as appropriate. Team Contribution · Assist with continuous improvement of the technical capacity of the engineering department where opportunities arise. · Provide informal support and on-the-job guidance to graduate engineers where requested. · Contribute to a culture of quality, accountability, and professional development. · Undertake additional tasks as directed by senior engineers or management. Qualifications and Experience Required · Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent qualification. · 2 years of structural engineering experience, with a clear focus on residential projects in the WA market. · Solid technical proficiency in residential structural analysis and design. · Working knowledge of Australian building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements as they apply to residential work. · Ability to manage assigned workflow independently and meet deadlines on routine residential projects. · Clean, accurate documentation habits and competent written communication. · Full working rights in Australia and a current driver’s licence. Highly Regarded · Experience across a broad range of residential project types — new builds, single and multi-storey buildings, renovations, additions, retaining structures and swimming pools. · Experience conducting site inspections, dilapidation surveys, and compliance assessments. · Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit. · Working toward Chartered Professional Engineer status Note: Commercial or industrial structural design experience is not required for this role. Career Pathway and Development CBC is a founder-led business and the founders take development seriously. This role is structured for an engineer who wants to focus on the technical work and grow steadily over time. For the right person, the development pathway looks like this: · Structural Engineer delivering reliable residential design output under senior guidance. · Increasing autonomy on more complex residential jobs and commercial/industrial jobs as experience builds. · Pathway to Senior Structural Engineer for those who develop the technical depth, client capability, and consistency to step up. Working Environment CBC is a small, experienced, and professional team that does not operate like a large firm. There are no unnecessary approval chains, no culture of watching the clock, and no layers between an engineer and the senior people supporting their work. · Direct access to senior engineers and both founding directors. · Working from home flexibility for report writing and design work, managed professionally rather than by policy. · Technical work that grows with the capability of the person doing it. · A team that takes quality seriously and backs each other to deliver it.
