About the program: AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace. Your responsibilities will include: Join Lockheed Martin Australia and help deliver AIR6500 — a once-in-a-generation program transforming Australia’s defence capability. As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in developing complex, integrated systems that connect sensors, networks, and decision-support tools to strengthen Australia’s national security. You will contribute to the design, analysis, and definition of system and subsystem requirements within a Model-Based Engineering (MBE) environment, working alongside subject matter experts across Lockheed Martin and partner organisations. Working in an Agile environment, you will help develop interface definitions, conduct trade studies, and deliver the engineering artefacts critical to AIR6500’s success. Key responsibilities: Develop and decompose system and subsystem requirements into solution designs using Model-Based Engineering (MBE) tools and frameworks. Define, manage, and analyse system interfaces and technical trade-offs against program requirements. Produce technical artefacts including solution descriptions, trade studies, and requirements documentation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support engineering activities, design reviews, and proposal/bid efforts. Apply effective configuration management, requirements management, and acceptance methodologies throughout the project lifecycle. About you: We are seeking a motivated and collaborative Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and working within multidisciplinary teams. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant Defence program while continuing to grow your systems engineering expertise. This role would suit someone who has been working in a Junior or Graduate Engineering role, looking to make a step into Systems Engineering. Those with Engineering backgrounds and a Masters' of Systems Engineering will also been considered. Working in the Systems Engineering team, you will have: Some experience working in an Engineering role in a Junior or Graduate capacity, working on large-scale, complex system designs and/or equivalent experience supporting Defence projects. Knowledge of the Systems Engineering Lifecycle, including Model-Based Systems Development/Engineering (MBSD/MBE) principles and practices. Experience working within Agile development environments (preferrable but not essential). Some experience with modelling and requirements management tools such as MagicDraw, Rhapsody, DOORS, or DNG. The ability to evaluate and balance trade-offs across complex system designs and requirements. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and proactively seek information.
