Your Role The role is responsible for managing an underwriting team and motivating the team to achieve high quality service levels enabling achievement of the team’s financial objectives. Key Responsibilities: Sales & Service Design and execute sales and service processes to deliver a high-quality broker experience. Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to staff on service standards. Proactively contact brokers and review sales/service metrics and SLAs. Action Net Promoter Score results and identify training needs. Liaise with branch and distribution stakeholders, providing updates. Achieve sales and service standards including turnaround time, telephone answer rate, and NPS. Staff Management Manage performance, goal setting, reviews, and compensation for team members. Oversee workflow, team capacity, and underwriter development. Recruit, motivate, and retain quality underwriters. Chair team meetings and ensure completion of compliance training and risk requirements. Financial Achieve team financial targets including GWP production, retention, rate, and loss ratio. Lead and execute cross-sell opportunities. Market Facing Platforms Document and update processes for market-facing platforms (MFPs) such as renewals. Work with stakeholders to troubleshoot issues and implement efficiency improvements. Portfolio Management Identify opportunities and areas for improvement within the portfolio. Ensure adherence to underwriting strategy, authority levels, and guidelines. Maintain documentation on underwriting decisions. Support Product Managers with underwriting results, profit analysis, and competitor insights. Stakeholder Management Engage with internal stakeholders (Product Managers, Sales, IT, Claims, Operations, Compliance) and external stakeholders (brokers, service providers). Act as the main referral point, proactively communicating and consulting to influence positive outcomes. Build strong relationships with all stakeholders. Qualifications What you’ll bring to the role Demonstrated experience in staff management, coaching, and building high-performing teams, with a proven ability to deliver high-quality sales and service standards. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including handling customer and broker escalations, influencing decisions, and negotiating effectively. Thorough knowledge of Property & Casualty lines, creative thinking to improve performance, and a willingness to cross-train in other P&C business areas. Experience in Business Package underwriting or portfolio management, and the ability to interpret policy wordings. Established broker market profile, with success in developing relationships and achieving GWP growth, plus familiarity with competitor products and services.
