Initial contract until end of November 2026 with a possible extension Attractive daily pay rate of $900 - $1500/day super Working 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week Work Location: Sydney Purpose of the role: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for leading a government agency’s finance function and providing strategic financial leadership across a complex and rapidly evolving organisation. Key Accountabilities: Lead and direct the finance function, including the ensuring that the agency’s financial resources are effectively allocated and controlled to maximise outcomes. Manage complex accounting functions across a dynamic organisation including major infrastructure projects, fund and cashflow management (including external borrowings), leases and grants. Ensure Treasury budget, forecasting and reporting requirements are delivered on time and consistently and accurately reflect agency internal reporting. Ensure effective financial reporting is in place, aligned with the needs of the business and external stakeholders that supports achievement of the agency's strategies, initiatives, and goals. Provide high level strategic advice and support on business area financial management and sustainability including advice for project teams. Lead financial performance reporting and analytics to support effective decision-making, business case preparation and coordination, funding submissions, project labour and capital budgeting, to maximise commercial and funding opportunities for the organisation. Manage all statutory financial reporting requirements and reporting to the Audit and Risk Committee, including relationship management with NSW Treasury, the Department (including shared services), the Audit Office and other government stakeholders. Lead and implement financial risk management and governance frameworks to measure, control and minimise risks and ensure compliance with relevant standards, NSW Government financial management and accounting policies, and statutory and reporting requirements. Lead a team and manage staff performance by providing feedback, coaching and advice to support the professional development of individuals and capability building within the team. Essential requirements: A member of a recognised professional accounting body such as Chartered Accountants Australia & NZ or Certified Practicing Accountants Australia. Demonstrated success in managing and developing financial reports and budgets in an operational and project environment with a strong business partnering focus, cashflow management within limited funding envelopes, project performance reporting and forecasting function. Knowledge of the application of the NSW Government Sector finance legislation, directions and policies, and Australian Accounting Standards.
