With ongoing service contracts and consistent operational demand across multiple locations, including regional and metropolitan areas, the business requires a well-maintained and fully operational fleet to meet client expectations and regulatory standards. The Motor Mechanic position is a full-time, ongoing role critical to maintaining the operational reliability and safety of the company’s specialised fleet, including street sweepers, trucks, and associated machinery. The role is responsible for diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and maintenance, and ensuring all vehicles operate efficiently and in compliance with relevant safety and environmental regulations. The Motor Mechanic supports uninterrupted service delivery, minimises downtime, and contributes to the overall efficiency and performance of fleet operations. Tasks Include: Maintain, service, and repair petrol and diesel engines and mechanical components of fleet vehicles, including transmissions, suspension systems, steering mechanisms, and braking systems. Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic tools and computerised testing equipment, and conduct post-repair checks, including road testing, to ensure optimal vehicle performance. Dismantle and inspect engines, transmissions, and other mechanical assemblies to assess faults and determine appropriate repair methods. Repair or replace worn and defective components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and reassemble mechanical systems to ensure operational reliability. Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, engine tuning, and inspection of critical components to ensure compliance with safety and emission standards. Test and adjust vehicle systems following repairs and servicing to ensure proper functionality, safety, and performance. Attend vehicle breakdowns and carry out emergency or onsite repairs as required to minimise operational disruptions and downtime. Maintain accurate service records, job cards, and documentation of all diagnostic findings, repairs, and maintenance activities. Monitor inventory levels of spare parts and workshop consumables and coordinate procurement to ensure availability for ongoing maintenance requirements. Qualifications and other requirements for Motor Mechanic Relevant qualification at AQF Certificate III level in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent) (ANZSCO Skill Level 3). A minimum of three (3) years of full-time relevant work experience as a Motor Mechanic, excluding any period of apprenticeship. Experience must demonstrate the ability to diagnose, service, and repair fleet vehicles, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, and suspension components, in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Strong practical mechanical skills with the ability to work on a range of fleet vehicles, including light commercial vehicles and specialised equipment where applicable. Sound knowledge of preventative maintenance practices, fault diagnosis, and use of diagnostic tools and computerised testing equipment. Experience in conducting scheduled servicing, breakdown repairs, and maintaining fleet reliability to minimise operational downtime. Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and compliance with relevant Australian standards and regulations. Ability to interpret technical manuals, service schedules, and mechanical diagrams accurately. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when identifying and rectifying faults. .
