Role Purpose The Motor Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining motor vehicles to ensure they operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Australian workplace expectations. Key Responsibilities Inspect motor vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, and operational faults using diagnostic equipment, road testing, visual inspection, and technical assessment methods. Diagnose faults in engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension, cooling systems, fuel systems, exhaust systems, and other vehicle components. Carry out scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, repairs, replacements, and adjustments in accordance with manufacturer specifications and accepted automotive trade practices. Dismantle, repair, replace, and reassemble defective mechanical components, including engines, gearboxes, clutches, brakes, suspension parts, and associated systems. Test and adjust repaired systems to confirm safe operation, performance reliability, and compliance with required mechanical standards before vehicle handover. Use electronic diagnostic tools, scan equipment, technical manuals, and workshop systems to support accurate fault identification and repair completion. Maintain detailed job records, service reports, parts usage documentation, diagnostic findings, and repair notes to support workshop administration and customer communication. Liaise with workshop supervisors, panel repair staff, parts suppliers, and other team members to coordinate repair priorities, identify required parts, and minimise vehicle downtime. Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with workplace health and safety procedures, environmental requirements, equipment operating instructions, and company policies. Identify and report additional vehicle defects, safety concerns, or repair requirements to the appropriate supervisor before undertaking further work. Maintain tools, workshop equipment, diagnostic devices, and work areas in a clean, safe, organised, and serviceable condition. Support quality control processes by checking completed repairs, assisting with final inspections, and ensuring workmanship meets business and customer expectations. Contribute to continuous improvement by recommending practical improvements to workshop processes, repair efficiency, safety practices, and service delivery standards. Provide professional and respectful customer service support when required, including explaining mechanical issues, repair requirements, and maintenance recommendations in clear language. Keep technical knowledge current through ongoing learning about vehicle technologies, diagnostic methods, repair procedures, and relevant industry developments. What We Are Looking For Minimum one (1) year of relevant work experience as a Motor Mechanic or in a closely related automotive mechanical role. Relevant automotive qualification, such as Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology, Diploma-level automotive qualification, or an equivalent recognised qualification. Sound technical knowledge of vehicle inspection, diagnostics, servicing, mechanical repair, and fault-finding procedures across common passenger and light commercial vehicles. Ability to use automotive diagnostic equipment, workshop tools, repair manuals, and service information systems safely and accurately. Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, safe manual handling, workshop housekeeping, and environmental responsibilities relevant to automotive repair work. Good communication, teamwork, time management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to complete assigned work to a professional standard. A current driver licence is desirable and may be required for vehicle testing, movement, and workshop operations.
