The Client Australian Steel Pty Ltd is a steel manufacturing company located in Braeside. They now seek an experienced Metal Fabricator to join their team in Braeside. The Role This is a full time role with an annual salary between $70,000 to $80,000 plus superannuation. The role is based in Braeside, VIC. The Responsibilities Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine fabrication requirements, dimensions, and assembly methods Mark out, cut, shape, bend, and assemble metal sections and plate materials using fabrication tools and machinery Fabricate structural steel components, metal products, and fabricated assemblies in accordance with project specifications and tolerances Set up and operate welding, cutting, grinding, drilling, and profile cutting equipment to manufacture metal components Join metal sections using welding, bolting, riveting, and fastening techniques to achieve structural integrity and alignment Operate plasma cutting equipment and associated machinery to process steel plates to required measurements and profiles Position, align, and secure fabricated components using lifting devices, clamps, and measuring equipment Inspect fabricated assemblies to ensure compliance with dimensional tolerances, quality standards, and engineering specifications Perform finishing activities including grinding, polishing, filing, deburring, and surface preparation of completed metal products Test and examine fabricated components for defects, distortions, or inconsistencies and implement corrective action where required Operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment to transport steel components safely within workshop environments Maintain fabrication equipment through routine checks, calibration, and safe operating procedures Monitor material usage and fabrication sequencing to support efficient workflow and minimise production delays Ensure compliance with workplace safety procedures, fabrication standards, and quality assurance requirements Coordinate with supervisors, workshop personnel, and production teams to achieve manufacturing timelines and project outcomes Maintain accurate measurements, tolerances, and fabrication records throughout the production processFinishing final products, including cleaning, polishing, filing, chiselling and grinding. The Requirements: Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade, Metal Fabrication, Welding, or equivalent trade qualification or at least 3 years of relevant experience in lieu Minimum 3 years' experience performing welding activities within steel fabrication or manufacturing environments Minimum 3 years' experience handling, positioning, assembling, and processing structural steel and metal components At least 3 years' experience reading and interpreting technical drawings, fabrication specifications, and workshop blueprints At least 3 years' experience operating fabrication machinery including plasma cutters, grinders, drills, presses, and welding equipment At least 3 years' experience fabricating, aligning, shaping, and assembling steel components to engineering specifications At least 3 years' experience performing cutting, grinding, finishing, and metal preparation processes within workshop environments Strong knowledge of fabrication methods, welding procedures, and steel processing techniques Ability to interpret measurements, tolerances, and technical specifications accurately Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures, equipment handling, and fabrication quality standards Good problem-solving skills and ability to identify fabrication defects or inconsistencies Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a workshop environment High attention to detail and commitment to workmanship quality
