Your new role at Steadfast We are looking for a Property Underwriter to join our Melbourne team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building strong broker relationships, solving underwriting challenges and delivering clear, commercially sound decisions. You will work closely with brokers, internal stakeholders and management to provide underwriting services across new business, renewals, policy amendments and cancellations. Alongside your technical underwriting capability, you’ll bring a customer‑first mindset, strong communication skills and a collaborative approach that supports trusted, long‑term relationships within the broker network. What your days may look like You may start your day connecting with brokers, reviewing submissions, renewals and priority enquiries. You’ll assess risk, clarify requirements and provide clear, timely underwriting terms in line with delegated authorities and underwriting guidelines. Throughout the day, you’ll liaise with internal teams and management, respond to broker queries, and ensure accurate records and compliance obligations are met. You may also assist with training and supporting colleagues, helping to embed agreed systems and processes into daily workflows. No two days are the same, but every day you’ll play a key role in supporting brokers, protecting the business and representing the Steadfast brand in market. The work you will lead and shape You’ll have the opportunity to: Deliver: Review and issue underwriting terms for new business, renewals, alterations and cancellations Assess: Evaluate risk, underwriting criteria and classifications to determine acceptance and terms Collaborate: Build strong, trusted relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders Support: Provide guidance and assistance to colleagues, including support with underwriting processes Maintain: Ensure accurate documentation, record‑keeping and compliance with regulatory requirements You may also: Identify opportunities to strengthen broker relationships and client outcomes Influence long‑term partnerships through proactive, solution‑focused underwriting Contribute ideas that support continuous improvement across underwriting practices What you will bring 3–5 years’ experience in insurance underwriting (property preferred) Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment and delegated authorities Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines Confidence working with brokers and stakeholders at all levels Strong organisational skills and adaptability in a dynamic environment Qualifications meeting RG146 requirements, or willingness to maintain compliance Solid Microsoft Office and Excel skills If you don’t meet every requirement but believe you bring the right mindset and transferable experience, we encourage you to apply we value potential and diverse career journeys.
