We're working with a funded Australian energy infrastructure business with a completely different thesis on one of the most interesting platform engineering roles in the market right now. They colocate modular, high-density data centres directly with low-cost power generation assets, and by controlling the energy, they can deliver GPU compute at materially lower cost than anyone running off commercial power. They have live sites operating across multiple locations, the infrastructure is in the ground, and they are now transitioning into GPU-based compute for AI and high-performance computing. They need someone to build the platform that makes it all accessible and that is where you come in. You will design and build the orchestration layer from scratch - a system that accepts customer GPU compute requests, routes workloads across owned infrastructure and third-party providers, and abstracts all that complexity behind a single, clean platform experience What You Will Work On Design and build core job routing and scheduling layer that sits between customers and their distributed GPU supply Develop customer-facing APIs for requesting, managing and monitoring GPU compute workloads Integrate with third-party GPU providers via API – handling provisioning, monitoring and teardown when local supply is constrained Build a clean abstraction layer so customers experience a single unified platform regardless of where their workload runs Implement cost tracking, usage monitoring and performance observability across all compute providers Work directly with the founder on product direction, system design and architectural decisions Lay the architectural foundation for what will evolve into a fully integrated GPU compute marketplace What We Are Looking For Strong backend engineering experience in Python, Go or similar (willing to take direction on stack) Someone who has designed and owned APIs and distributed systems end to end, not just contributed to them Solid cloud infrastructure experience across any major provider - AWS, GCP or Azure Hands-on with containers and orchestration – Docker and Kubernetes in real environments Comfortable making independent architectural decisions without a senior layer above you An operator mentality – you think about networking, resource allocation and compute, not just application code Entrepreneurial by nature, ability to adapt quickly, take ownership and do not need a defined playbook Nice To Have Any exposure to GPU workloads, HPC environments or ML infrastructure Experience with job scheduling tools like Slurm, Kubernetes jobs or similar Background working across multiple compute providers or building abstraction layers over third-party infrastructure. IaC with Terraform or Ansible Why You Will Love It Australia-Wide | Remote or Hybrid | Genuine flexibility for the right person Up to $220k Super Equity via Employee Share Option Plan Build something that does not exist yet – the platform, the architecture and the product roadmap are yours to shape from day one Work directly with the founder, short feedback loops & full autonomy Real infrastructure, real stakes. Our client is funded, revenue generating and actively deploying across multiple live sites Founding engineer of the platform layer at an early-stage business, your equity reflects that. If you’re a Platform Engineer, ready to step into a role where you actually build the product that underpins the business, not maintain someone else’s, this one is worth a conversation.
