About the role We are seeking a senior lawyer with 5 years’ PAE, specialising in legislation and reform to join our Commonwealth Government client. The successful candidate will ideally have experience preparing drafting instructions, drafting Explanatory Memorandum and Explanatory Statements, and must demonstrate strong attention to detail. An initial labour hire contract until 30 June 2026 is on offer, commencing in February 2026. This role is full-time or part-time and is available to candidates based in Canberra, ACT. Remote or flexible working arrangements will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please note: only Australian citizens with the ability to obtain/maintain a Baseline security clearance can be considered for this role; however, an existing clearance will be highly regarded. Duties and requisite capabilities/experience: Support several high-profile legislative development projects within the Legal Division. Strong demonstrated experience in the development of legislation, including drafting processes, preparation of explanatory materials, familiarity with parliamentary processes, and responding to parliamentary committee scrutiny. Experience providing legal advice within short timeframes, with a high level of attention to detail. Minimum of five years post-admission experience. Previous APS experience, including familiarity with obligations under the Legal Services Directions 2017 is highly desirable.
