Senior Network Engineer – Initial 12-month contract – Melbourne (Hybrid) - Must have a Baseline Clearance A major Victorian-based organisation is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join its technology team as part of a strategic network uplift program focused on modernising and enhancing core network infrastructure supporting mission-critical services across the state. You will be responsible for the design, implementation and ongoing support of secure, scalable and resilient network environments, ensuring high performance, strong security and continuous service availability across a complex enterprise landscape. This role will see you working across both on-premise and hybrid environments, with a strong focus on network optimisation, uplift initiatives and security enhancement. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Design, implement and maintain enterprise LAN, WAN and wireless network infrastructure Configure and support routers, switches, firewalls and related networking equipment Manage and support Fortinet firewall environments (essential) Support Palo Alto firewall environments (nice to have) Support SD-WAN environments and contribute to ongoing optimisation initiatives Troubleshoot complex network issues and minimise service disruption and downtime Monitor network performance and implement tuning and optimisation improvements Support VPN, VLAN and network segmentation strategies Contribute to network uplift initiatives focused on performance, resilience and security improvements Design and maintain disaster recovery and network continuity strategies Support wireless networking environments (including Meraki where applicable) Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, security and operations teams to ensure seamless integration across platforms Maintain accurate network documentation including topology diagrams and configuration records Provide escalation support for network incidents and technical issues Engage with vendors for procurement, upgrades and lifecycle management of network hardware Stay current with emerging networking technologies and recommend improvements This is an initial 12-month fixed-term contract based in Melbourne with a hybrid working model, offering the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact transformation program. There is strong potential for extension based on program needs and performance. The skills/experience needed will include but not be limited to: Proven experience as a Network Engineer in enterprise environments Strong hands-on experience with network design, implementation and troubleshooting Strong experience with Fortinet firewalls (essential) Experience with Palo Alto firewalls (highly regarded) Solid understanding of SD-WAN technologies (essential or highly desirable depending on experience) Strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF) Experience with VPNs, VLANs, network segmentation and load balancing Experience with network monitoring and performance tools Exposure to wireless networking environments (e.g. Meraki) Knowledge of cloud networking (AWS and/or Azure) in hybrid environments Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills Want to apply?
