Cloud Engineer – Initial 12-month contract – Melbourne (Hybrid) - Must have a Baseline Clearance A major Victorian-based organisation is seeking a skilled Cloud Engineer to join its technology team as part of a significant transformation program focused on modernising critical registration and licensing services. You will play a key role in designing, implementing and maintaining secure, scalable cloud environments across AWS and Azure that support essential public-facing services. You’ll work closely with infrastructure, security, development and operations teams to deliver reliable and efficient cloud solutions, with a strong emphasis on automation, governance and operational excellence. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Design, deploy and manage scalable, secure and highly available cloud environments across AWS and Azure Build and maintain infrastructure using automation tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation and Ansible Support cloud infrastructure operations including monitoring, incident response and performance optimisation Implement cloud security best practices including IAM, network security, encryption and access controls Contribute to disaster recovery, backup and business continuity planning and execution Optimise cloud cost, performance and scalability across environments Collaborate with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, security, architecture and application teams Provide technical support and troubleshooting for cloud-related issues Maintain documentation for cloud architecture, standards and operational processes Stay current with emerging cloud technologies and recommend improvements where appropriate This is an initial 12-month fixed-term contract based in Melbourne with a hybrid working model, offering the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact transformation program. There is strong potential for extension based on program needs and performance. The skills/experience needed will include but not be limited to: Proven experience as a Cloud Engineer or Infrastructure Engineer working with AWS and Azure Strong infrastructure background with hands-on experience in cloud environments (compute, storage, networking, security) Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation or similar Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash and/or PowerShell) Solid understanding of cloud networking concepts including VPNs, firewalls, load balancers and security groups Experience with monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Azure Monitor or Prometheus Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes Understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines (you don’t need to be a DevOps Engineer, but must be comfortable working in DevOps environments) Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities Excellent communication and collaboration skills Want to apply?
