We are seeking an in-house Legal Specialist / Paralegal with a background in Workers Compensation who is either currently completing their legal studies or has been working in the industry for some time and is ready to step into a hands-on, in-house role. This opportunity suits someone who enjoys the legal side of workers compensation, particularly litigation, and wants exposure to complex matters without the pressure of billable targets. You’ll be part of a collaborative team while still maintaining a healthy work/life balance. The purpose of this role is to assist with the preparation and strategic management of Work Injury Damages (WID) claims, support statutory litigation in the Personal Injury Commission , assist with other legally based claims, undertake legal project work, and provide ongoing legal support to Specialised Insurance Group. This is a full-time, 12 month max-term contract/secondment based in our Sydney office, with flexibility to work from home. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES Support the claims team by providing practical legal support and advice on legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines impacting workers’ compensation claims to enable sound, legally accurate decision making Assist with the management of statutory workers’ compensation litigation and Work Injury Damages (WID) matters, including preparation of legal documentation and coordination of matters through the Personal Injury Commission Work closely with external legal panel providers to support effective litigation strategies and timely outcomes Attend legal proceedings alongside external legal providers as EML’s representative, where appropriate Assist with strategic reviews of the claims portfolio, including contributing to presentations for employers on general legal concepts or individual matters Keep up to date with relevant case law and legislative changes impacting workers’ compensation claims and the scheme ABOUT YOU Experience working in Workers’ Compensation is essential (statutory and/or WID) Currently completing a law degree, or experienced as a paralegal or legal assistant within a workers’ compensation practice or claims environment Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment Confident communicator with the ability to build effective working relationships with claims teams, legal providers and other stakeholders A current NSW practice certificate is not required, but is highly regarded if held WHAT WE OFFER We stand together as equals.
