Play a key role in building capability and maintaining compliance across locomotive maintenance teams Deliver hands‑on, competency‑based training in a safety‑critical rail environment Work closely with maintenance, engineering and standards teams to support continuous improvement About the Role Pacific National is seeking an experienced Maintenance Trainer (Locomotives) to deliver high‑quality training and competency assessments across our locomotive maintenance workforce. In this role, you’ll support maintenance employees and contractors by coordinating, delivering and documenting training in line with the Rail Safety Act, Pacific National standards and RTO requirements. You’ll work closely with Maintenance Execution Managers, Supervisors and technical stakeholders to ensure training is consistent, effective and aligned to operational needs. This position suits someone with strong rail or heavy industry maintenance experience who enjoys developing others and supporting a safe, capable workforce. What you’ll be doing Deliver training and competency assessments for employees and contractors across multiple sites. Implement approved training plans in line with policies, procedures and RTO requirements. Deliver competency‑based training and assessment using approved training packages. Support Maintenance Execution Managers and Supervisors with training delivery and capability uplift. Review and assess Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) applications. Coordinate training requirements to ensure compliance with the Rail Safety Act. Manage training records, assessment outcomes and reporting via Learning Hub. Monitor delivery of training requirements and contribute to monthly reporting. Develop, review and update training materials using standard templates. Evaluate training effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement. Provide subject matter expertise to Engineering and Standards teams. Promote training, safety and compliance awareness across the business. Actively support a strong safety culture and address unsafe work practices where required. What you’ll bring Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (essential). Trade qualification with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in rail, mining or a similar heavy industry. 2–5 years’ experience in a training or assessment role within a maintenance or rail environment. Strong understanding of competency‑based training and RTO compliance requirements. Proven ability to engage with a wide range of operational and technical stakeholders. Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities. Willingness to travel to various operational sites as required. Experience with enterprise training systems, reporting tools (e.g. Tableau) and Microsoft applications is desirable. Why join us?
