As a Dealing Room Risk Manager / Senior Manager within Commodities, Trade & Transition (CTT), you’ll lead second line market risk governance and oversight for physical and financial commodity trading activities across agriculture, energy, carbon, base and precious metals, and electricity markets. You’ll design and maintain robust market risk frameworks, including risk limits, stress testing, risk factor sensitivities, valuation oversight, and early warning indicators. A key focus of the role is independent oversight of traded market risk, ensuring exposures remain within risk appetite and that appropriate controls are in place for new and existing trading strategies. You’ll provide independent challenge and expert advice to senior stakeholders, contribute to the development of risk policies and governance forums, and support the implementation of best-in-class risk analytics and reporting. This is a permanent full-time Sydney-based role, with flexible work options (3 days in office). What do I need? 7–10 years’ experience in commodities market risk, commodity trading, or related control functions within a global financial institution, commodity merchant, or hedge fund. Deep understanding of both physical and financial commodity markets, including delivery logistics, storage, basis risk, and operational risk considerations. Strong capability in market risk governance, policy development, and risk limit frameworks. Expertise in market risk metrics including VaR, stress testing, scenario analysis, and risk sensitivities (Greeks). Experience designing and overseeing monitoring frameworks, including KRIs, KPIs, performance triggers, and early warning indicators. Familiarity with valuation oversight, including commodity curve construction, volatility surface calibration, and basis adjustments. Strong senior stakeholder management skills, providing independent challenge and advice to Front Office and governance forums. Proficiency in risk systems (e.g. Murex) and analytical tools (e.g. Python, SQL, Excel). A degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering); certifications such as CFA or FRM are highly regarded.
