PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: You will support your Media Manager and act as a senior member of the team, developing press / media collaterals and providing strategic media and communications advice and leading on both proactive and reactive media activity in a fast‑paced, politically sensitive environment. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Track news coverage, social media conversations, emerging issues and prepare daily media reports or summaries for leadership. Plan and coordinate press conferences, interviews, announcements, or launches. Write press releases, media statements, Q&As and event briefs and act as a point of contact for journalists. Draft talking points and coach executives or subject-matter experts before interviews. Draft reactive statements and manage urgent media requests. Maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets. Coordinate satellite interviews or technical broadcast needs. Pitch stories proactively, package press materials, media kits, B-roll, and image libraries. Operating email distribution platforms for press releases and alerts. Using specialised media monitoring platforms such as Isentia. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 5 years of experience in Government media/communications / Public Affairs, and/or a busy newsroom or similar high‑tempo media environment. High level of personal maturity, resilience and flexibility, with a willingness to work across both proactive campaigns and reactive issues. Strong writing skills to develop clear, compelling content. Experience dealing with high volume media releases and enquiries. Excellent stakeholder manageement skills and the ability to deal with very senior leaders including ministers.
