Work exclusively for large popular Food chain With the resources of a top law firm Flexibility and good rem and benefits Commercial Disputes & Franchising Lawyer (3–5 PQE) – Leading National Retail Client Our client is looking for a talented commercial litigator with an interest in franchising to join their Sydney team in a full-time role. This is a rare opportunity to step into a front-line position with a major national retail franchisor and to work closely with one of Australia’s leading contentious IP partners. The role In this role, you will be the key point of contact for a leading franchisor client with over 100 retail stores across Australia, supporting their ambitious nationwide growth strategy. You will work across a mix of general commercial disputes and franchising matters, delivering clear, pragmatic advice that helps the business make fast, confident decisions. You will also work closely with a highly respected IP partner whose practice spans contentious intellectual property disputes (including patents, trade marks, copyright, brand protection, trade secrets and portfolio management), giving you exposure to sophisticated IP and brand protection work. This position is ideal for a 3–5 PQE lawyer who enjoys taking ownership of matters, working directly with senior stakeholders and seeing the commercial impact of their advice. Key responsibilities Drafting, reviewing and negotiating franchise agreements and broader commercial contracts, ensuring both legal compliance and commercial alignment. Advising on and managing a range of commercial disputes, including franchising and related commercial issues. Preparing, updating and maintaining franchise disclosure documents and other key franchise documentation. Taking a lead role in protecting the franchisor’s interests in negotiations and dispute resolution processes. Providing strategic, commercially focused advice to support franchise growth initiatives and broader business objectives. Advising on compliance with Australian franchising regulations, including the Franchising Code of Conduct, and assisting in managing regulatory risk. Working directly with senior client stakeholders, contributing to high-level commercial decision-making and franchise strategy. Supporting and managing franchisee relationships, including day-to-day advisory work and contentious matters as they arise. About you To succeed in this role, you will have: Admission to practice in NSW. 3–5 years’ post-admission experience in commercial disputes, with experience in retail or franchise law (or a genuine interest in building a practice in franchising). Strong understanding of Australian franchise regulation and core commercial contract principles. Excellent technical, drafting and research skills, with sound judgment and a practical mindset. Proven ability to manage competing deadlines and a busy disputes workload. Exceptional attention to detail and strong organisational skills. A client-focused approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. An enthusiastic, positive and collaborative attitude, and a desire to build long-term client relationships.
