The Why: The Associate Director of Media and External Communications is a key member of the Ubank Communications Team, reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer and is responsible for all external communications and media activity for Ubank. This 12 month Fixed term role is highly strategic in driving external business outcomes. You will be a results driven individual with proven experience in leading and scaling media and external communications efforts. This role is ideal for an experienced banking, finance or technology comms leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Set strategy and direction for Ubank’s media and external communications, advising the Ubank CEO and Leadership Team on reputational opportunities and risks. Lead the development and execution of external communications strategies, including annual goals and quarterly OKRs. Manage messaging and positioning on key topics, ensuring consistency and alignment with NAB Group. Work with leaders to oversee all PR activity and ensure consistent, positive media coverage aligning with business priorities. Lead Ubank media and external communications approach on issues and risk management, including crisis communications (IMT Bronze). Provide regular reporting and insights to senior management across Ubank and NAB CA. Collaborate with Ubank Marketing and Internal Communications to align priorities and messaging. Act as conduit with NAB Corporate Affairs for transparency and reputational impact. Proactively identify issues impacting Ubank’s and NAB’s trust and reputation. Your Experience: Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field (required). Postgraduate qualifications in Communications, Business, or related disciplines (desirable). Evidence of ongoing professional development in communications, media, digital strategy or adjacent fields relevant to Corporate Affairs skills. Demonstrated success in leading communications strategies, plans, and execution in large corporates, ideally in banking, finance, or technology. Demonstrated experience in communications, with both external and internal focus. Proven track record in senior communications strategy at a matrixed organisation, partnering with teams and executives across all functions. Experience building integrated communications and increasing the impact of storytelling. Experience leading and managing individuals or teams. Ability to partner and influence across the organisation, especially with marketing, corporate affairs, government, and industry. Strong understanding of how to measure external communications to demonstrate impact in trust and reputation building. Why Ubank?
