Position Summary : The Painter is responsible for delivering high-quality painting services for domestic, commercial, and industrial projects. This role includes on-site preparation, surface preparation, painting work, post-painting clean-up, and ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. The Painter will work independently or collaboratively with other tradespeople to complete projects efficiently and professionally. Maintaining equipment, adhering to OH&S standards, and reporting safety hazards or concerns are key aspects of this role. Key Requirements : Professional painting experience across domestic, commercial, or industrial projects is desired but not a requirement. Proven ability to prepare surfaces, apply finishes, and perform post-painting clean-up to industry standards. Strong understanding of OH&S regulations and environmental compliance. Ability to identify and address surface preparation needs, including minor repairs. Proficiency in using various painting tools and techniques (brush, roller, sprayer). Excellent time management and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Effective communication and ability to report hazards or concerns promptly. White Card (General Construction Induction Training). Relevant high-risk work or site-specific licenses (e.g., Yellow Card, Working with Children’s Check). Job Responsibility : On-site preparation: Set up scaffolding, ladders and other necessary equipment if trained and instructed to do so. Cover and protect adjacent surfaces, fixtures, furnishings, carpets, cabinetry, outlet covers, lighting fixtures and landscaping, using drop sheets, tape, plastic covers and masking paper etc. Identify and ensure the work area is safe and free from hazards. Report any hazards to your direct supervisor prior to commencing any work. Surface preparation: Assess and inspect the conditions of surfaces to be painting and identify necessary repairs. Clean surfaces to remove dirt, grease and debris using various methods (e.g., scraping, sanding and pressure washing). Fill holes, cracks and seams with plaster or other fillers. Sand, scrape and smooth surfaces to ensure a proper base for painting. Apply primers and sealers to prepare surfaces for finishing. Painting work: Collect materials from trade depots and retain receipts for reimbursement if necessary. Select appropriate brushes, rollers or sprayers for the application. Apply paint, varnish, lacquer, stains or sealers to various surfaces both interior and exterior on domestic, commercial and industrial projects. Ensure even coverage and proper finish by applying multiple coats if necessary. Perform touch ups and corrections to achieve the best possible finish. Post-painting work: Cleaning areas, supplies and equipment. Clean up job site from construction rubbish, general mess and hazards. Maintain painting equipment and all equipment to ensure proper performance. Safety and Compliance: Comply and follow current Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) legislation. Always work safely and ensure safe working practices are followed for yourself and others around you. Comply with Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) guidelines with respect to the use and handling of hazardous chemicals and materials. Comply with and use personal protective equipment (PPE). Non-negotiable PPE on site is safety boots/steel cap boots and high-vis clothing. When required, protective eyewear, gloves, respirators and wide-brimmed hats must be worn. Comply and dispose of hazardous materials according to environmental guidelines including laws, regulations, codes etc. Comply and store hazardous materials appropriately. Maintain a clean and organised work environment to prevent accidents. Maintain current licenses and registrations required on job sites (E.g. White Card, Yellow Card, driver’s license, High-Risk Work, Working with Children’s Check etc). Attend all mandatory training and complete all required inductions prior to commencing work when required. Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the supervisor. General responsibilities: Work collaboratively with other industry professionals and trades people on job sites ensuring safety protocols are always known and adhered to. Practice self-supervision for small jobs. Ensure jobs and projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Follow all management instructions including but not limited to job execution and utilisation of appropriate finished and applications.
